About the offer from Barcelona Karpin has told on air of TV channel “Match TV”. The Catalans wanted to see the Russian player in 2002 when he was going to leave the “salty”.
“In 2002, after the world Cup I ended the contract with “Celta”. There was an agreement on the transition in “Barcelona”. Flying there, but then they called me and said that doesn’t add up. Went to real Sociedad, and this year the team nearly took first place in the Spanish League,” said Karpin.
Karpin spent in the “Celta” for five seasons, from 1997 to 2002. He then moved to real Sociedad, which played until 2005. In 2003, the club became Vice-champion of Spain, behind real Madrid just two points . Two rounds before the end the Basque club was in first place, but then missed the real Madrid forward.
